Poltimore, A festival for the soul – Guest review for Exploring Exeter by Amelie Foster

Because we have been crazy busy with the move, this weekend our lovely friends Amelie and Paul Foster from our favourite awesome video production company Tempo Media went to Poltimore Festival to cover it for Exploring Exeter and this is Amelie’s beautiful review with image stills by the very talented Paul (thanks guys x)

Poltimore Festival is in its infancy in terms of its life span. Its only its 5th year and until this year it was known as  Arts on the move. Perhaps it’s the setting -including beautiful, historic Poltimore House – or the pure Zen the festival offers but it feels as if these guys have been at it for years.  Perfecting a beautiful blend of music and arts .

From Yoga in the woods (in grounds that are littered with scenery fit for cinema) to theatre in the chapel, Poltimore celebrates the arts.

We caught the particularly talented Rum Smash -Jordan Edgington – performing the beautiful I am Gladiator.

There was a visual feast of art spread inside the rooms and around the grounds of Poltimore, a backdrop which any artist or viewer could fail but be awed by.

There were opportunities to fulfill festival lusts:  Belly laughs from stand up comedians (including set by celebrity First Dater Louisa GJ), poetry (including a lady offering on the spot poetry to anyone wishing to stop her and be indulged) and film to pull on your thought processes.

The musical line up  was eclectic and an awesome soundtrack to a day of soul feeding. The headliners Wildwood Kin made for the perfect ending to the day with their spine tingling harmonies and ‘hypnotic folk’ and The Little Unsaid embraced the Sunday mellow mood and enchanted with his acoustic guitar and emotionally charged lyrics .

Inside the house offered an astonishing stage to other bands, including the 5 piece fierce and extremely talented Lipstick Jumpsuit whose dark and moody rock echoed the crumbling ruins of the courtyard.

All the festival essentials were a cut above and the fabulous food stalls made choosing difficult. From luxury cheese toasties and fresh fire oven cooked pizza to huge juicy burgers and delectable sugar free brownies.

Life is full of difficult choices, and deciding what to stuff my face with at Poltimore was a particularly tricky one.

The bars and ice cream van quenched our thirst and cooled us down in the glorious Devon sunshine that had seemingly come along to enjoy the fun at Poltimore festival.

Laughter and smiles from the bouncy castle and those embarking on the tricky art of slack-lining filled the gaps between bands.

Poltimore festival was charming, like the building itself, it offered a unique and wondrous assortment of activities and a blissful assault on the senses.

Like the building, I can see this festival evolving and continuing to grow into something truly spectacular.
