Each year the finest local foodie businesses are showcased at Exeter Food Festival. The brainchild of none other than Michael Caines, the festival is in its sixteenth year. I popped along to the blogger’s breakfast to get the lowdown of this year’s event and meet some of the producers.
We were welcomed by Michael Caines, who told us a little about the festival and his hope to give the smaller local producers a route to market. In Michael’s opinion, Devon is on a par with Tuscany when it comes to regional food and drink, and I wouldn’t argue that. There is something really special about the foodie scene in Devon.
Breakfast was an eggie bap from Dart’s Farm.
We tried some of Butter Bike Co’s delicious peanut butter brownies. Butter Bike Co. uses no Palm Oil and no Added Oils, just nuts and a little touch of salt in our pure nut butter “to make the nuttiest, most authentic peanut butter possible”. It was REALLY tasty!
I can recommend the smoked chilli flavour!
Rum for breakfast you say? Why not! Here’s me with Latisha from sugar pink food and lovely Naomi G.
Two Drifters Distillery is the creation of Russ and Gemma Wakeham who make their rum in a warehouse near Exeter Airport. “We’ve worked very hard to be where we are right now, and finally believe we have the best jobs in the world, living in one of the best counties, making products that we love.”
So it’s local, tasty and eco-friendly – every part of their rum production is carbon negative by offsetting their carbon dioxide emissions through direct air capture.
Next up was Sea Spoon. Did you know that seaweed is one of the most nutritious and sustainable plants on the planet? Sea spoon have created a series of seaweed blends that are tasty, easy to use and nutritional!
We were given a sample, and now we used it at home like we would use salt and pepper – it’s delicious!
Then it was my favourite, Salcombe Gin. Distilled in Salcombe and tasting amazing.
We finished where we started at Dart’s Farm and then headed out to enjoy more of the festival.
See and hear more on my Instagram story here, including talks from the producers we met!
Make sure you add Exeter Food Festival to your list of things to do next year!
