*Indie Alert* One Mile Bakery Exeter Launches Family-Friendly Taster Baking Classes
We love to support local businesses and I have a special affiliation for supporting local Mums who follow their dreams. Boudicca Woodland is one of those Mums, making her mark with her business, One Mile Bakery. TBH, the fact she’s called Boudicca makes me like her instantly!
Boudicca started her business last year. It is a unique concept in the South-West, delivering artisan bread, soup and preserves by bike to subscribers within a mile of her kitchen and offering a fantastic range of baking classes. The OMB ethos is all about being part of the local community, meeting the person who has made your food, and offering an antidote to soulless supermarket shopping.
I moved to Exeter just over 10 years ago from London with my partner (now husband) after making a list of requirements – a theatre, a cinema, decent Sunday lunch pubs, excellent coffee shops, and access to good food. Exeter has not let me down in the slightest and in fact has encouraged me to explore lots of different food events and also locally sourced, seasonal, food more than ever before. I’m passionate about my One Mile Bakery because it brings all my passions together in a place I love living in.
OMB use a subscription business model to eradicate food waste. They minimise environmental impact by delivering on bike and using 100% plastic-free compostable packaging.
New in time for the Easter holidays
Boudicca has added a range of half-day baking classes to the One Mile Bakery. Aimed at super busy people wanting to dip their toe into the world of baking their own bread, these introductory sessions are also ideal for anyone looking for a fun, relaxed and rewarding activity to do with children aged 8 and above.
Teaching in her micro bakery kitchen at home in Exeter, baker Boudicca Woodland is a busy working mum of two and came up with the taster class idea when time-pressured people requested a shorter class or something they could bring children along to. Each session runs from 10am-1.30pm and is a hands-on workshop which introduces the basics of baking great bread that’s free from any nasty additives and preservatives.
Learn to make a tear and share loaf – getting confident working with dough, and understanding the foundations of a delicious bake – and choose your own flavourings for the and decorative toppings. While your loaf rises, you’ll make a batch of incredibly light scones to take home and enjoy lunch.
We are looking forward to trying a class ourselves!
The classes will run on Friday mornings, starting on 5, 19 and 26 April – book here. Places are £50 per person, children (accompanied by an adult) are £10 each. Further dates to be announced, but this class can also be booked for a private group – please contact Boudicca to book direct. Gift vouchers are also available for this class.
