Not your average seaside town – Teignmouth Sea Front

We are a bit spoilt for beaches in Devon, especially on the North Coast but Teignmouth is a bit of a South Coast gem when you have smallies.

I first heard of Teignmouth via a Mum we met at Forest School who had bought a house there and gushed about it being a great place to live, she said that it’s going through a lot of regeneration.

With is beautiful Edwardian houses and a long sandy beach, it has something for everyone. Like my much loved Brighton and other UK Seaside destinations it has it’s own Grand Pier, built in 1865 and steeped in history, with tasty ice cream, a penny arcade and old novelties.

The Pier took a serious kicking in the storms of 2014 losing 90% of its machines so a lot of the machines in there now are new or re-vamped. The pier itself does need some love, it has bags of potential but needs a bit of a cash injection to give it that extra sparkle.

Beyond the pier, Teignmouth also hosts an new-looking huge and awesome park with activities for all ages including; trampolines, dinosaur crazy golf, and a skate park for scooters and boards.  The kids loved it and we happily whiled away a few hours with friends.

It’s a great place to spend a day playing.  Between the parks, the pier, the beach and the town there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained.  I have heard that the parking in the Summer is a bit of a nightmare though, so if you are heading there during the holidays, get there early!
