Pizza making & lunch at Base + Barley, Exeter
Yesterday the guys at Base + Barley invited us for lunch, we hadn’t sampled their pizzas and we are always up for new experiences so we headed along.
If you haven’t been already, Base + Barley is a new(ish) restaurant in the city centre just across the road from John Lewis.
Base + Barley specialises in sourdough pizzas (hence the ‘base’) and craft beer (that’ll be the ‘barley’). I’ve been for breakie but I’ve never tried sourdough pizza so I was looking forward to it.
We arrived just after 12pm and the kids were excited when the staff said that they could make their own pizza! We sat down, ordered some drinks and perused the menu.
The coffee was lush and the kids spent some time colouring while the staff set up the make your own pizza table.
You can pre-arrange your own make your own pizza session on quiet days. When it was ready, the kids were very happy to plaster the pizza base in tomato sauce and add toppings and cheese..
Once they had finished, the pizzas were popped in the oven and it was time for their starters; dough sticks with garlicy butter and veg fingers which went down a treat.
For our meals, I ordered the roasted aubergine bake with yogurt dip and hubby ordered the Base + Barley Breakfast from the brunch menu. The main course came promptly and the kids pizzas looked good!
The food was plentiful, well presented and tasty, I especially liked the pomegranate salad and roasted vine tomatoes. The kids were more than happy with their pizzas and I had a sneaky taste of the base and it was rockin!
We were stuffed but the £1 kids menu comes with a dessert so we thought we ought to take one for the team and squeeze it in.
The dessert choices for the kids menu are ice cream or mini chocolate fudge brownie, we went for the latter and it was lovely.
At Base + Barley all day, every day except Monday, kids eat three courses for £1 when purchasing any adult main from the main menu! It’s a total bargain and we will definitely head back again sometime soon.
They also offer 50% off on Mondays so it’s a great place to head if the budget is a bit tight but you want to take the kids somewhere nice over the summer holidays.
You can find Base + Barley at Portland House, Longbrook Street, Exeter, EX4 6AH
