We are more than a bit excited to learn that the curators of Cornish beach festival, Tunes In The Dunes, are holding a new family-friendly festival in one of our most favourite locations; Powderham Castle. It’s happening Saturday 3rd to Sunday 4th of August and there will be music, jousting, Joan of Arc’s Gin Garden, King Arthur’s VIP area, a silent disco (because we all love a silent disco).
Just eight miles from Exeter town centre settled on the bank of River Exe, Powerham Castle holds centuries of stories which is opening to the public especially for the one of a kind festival, Tunes In The Castle.
The weekend of family-friendly fun will cater for all ages and interests. Youngsters can be entertained by Robin Hood’s Archery Range, surprise wizardry games and medieval themed children’s area.
Revellers are encouraged to dance the night away in the enchanted forest, discover the secret ballroom with special acts playing throughout the weekend, sample some of the South West’s finest beverages at the Prosecco Bar or flower-filled Gin Garden, and can enjoy a Round Table inspired feast at an additional cost.
For those looking to unwind, the wellness area will have hot tubs and saunas for soaking tired limbs, while yoga classes will be running in the big teepee, where festival-goers can escape the excitement and take in the tranquil surroundings.
The curators of Tunes In The Castle are committed to keeping Powerham Estate clean and green, so reusable cups will be available to minimise single-use plastic. Sister Festival Tunes In The Dunes has worked closely with Surfers Against Sewage for the last five years, with a sleeves-up approach towards tackling the plastic pollution problem. Tunes In The Castle will have an equally proactive attitude to keeping the riverside estate as plastic free as possible.
The hashtag #PlasticFreeTunes will be used across all social platforms to raise awareness and to inspire action among Tunes In The Castle festival goers.
Tunes In The Castle is born from Cornwall’s well-loved festival Tunes in The Dunes on Perranporth beach in Cornwall, that has seen artists such as Status Quo, John Newman, UB40 ft Ali, Astro & Mickey, Clean Bandit, Dizzee Rascal, the Waterboys, James Morrison, Billy Ocean and many more. So far the Saturday headliners; Pixie Lott, Sugarhill Gang and Hayseed Dixie have been announced and there are a more to come.
Powderham Castle lies in a beautiful deer park, just a stone’s throw from the historic cathedral city of Exeter. The Castle was first opened to visitors in 1959, since then in excess of a million people have been through the doors to share in over 600 years of history and heritage and take away many fond memories.
Camping
The campsite is located a 5-minute walk through the woodlands from the main arena with idyllic views over the estuary. There will be showers, toilets and clean running water provided. Shire Huts will be available to book at an additional cost. These unique glamping pods are handcrafted in the heart of the Cornish countryside using ‘waney’ timber.
Glampers can opt for Luxury Bell Tents instead, which come with lighting and can sleep six comfortably, but guests will need to bring their own furniture. Or there are two beautifully hand-painted tipis which include cushions, roll mats, lighting and a shared fire pit, which can sleep five comfortably.
